Forgot your name but it's coming to me You look the same, nice running in to you I can be found at the edge of the crowd Where it's not quite so loud. To live for Something more Than whatever I'm living for Unlocking doors. In times like these it's hard to find Any peace of any kind Something to remind us why we are here And what we hold dear. To live for Something more Than whatever I'm living for Unlocking doors Searching for something To live for Something more Than whatever I'm living for Unlocking doors. Forgot your name but it's coming to me You look the same, nice running into you Forgot your name. To live for Something more Than whatever we're living for Unlocking doors.

The Rubicon 03:22
When you think you are alright Happy hours turn to happy nights Two for one One for all You clutch the wall. Stumbling through a crowd The room is spinning round You do As you please When she's not around Yeah you do As you please When she's not around. You won't remember The way you were That's what you prefer. You crossed the Rubicon The high ground you were standing on Will wash Wash away As the waters rise Yeah, they'll wash, Wash away With her tears.

Naked 03:30
Are you Naked underneath that skin Or are you just a skeleton All skin and bone No fleshy thoughts or feeling In any of your dealings? Are you Naked when you get undressed Do you struggle do you try your best Or do You shiver shrink and wilt regress Draw a tattered cloak of morals? Closing off the Closing off the Closing off the world. Are you Naked underneath that light Does it blind you does it shine too bright For you In any your meanings Excuses and reasons? Are you Naked as you want to be Do you hate the dichotomy Of where you are And just how far It is to where you want to be? Closing off the Closing off the Closing off the world Clothes come off your Clothes come off your Clothes come off your world. Are you who you ought to be You know you're who you want to be Tear off your clothes so they can see Tear off your clothes so they can see Are you Naked underneath that skin Or are you just a skeleton All skin and bone No fleshy thoughts or feeling In any of your dealings? Are you Naked when you get undressed Do you struggle do you try your best Or do You shiver shrink and wilt regress?

She's Gone 03:20
Unbeknownst to you She could not make it through You saw behind the smiles But there was nothing you could do. God knows How hard you tried You stayed by her side And loved her blindly through. Perhaps an accident A deadly game she took too far Why leave the engine on She had bought a brand new car. God knows You won't comprehend She closed the garage Why pretend otherwise? You realized so fast There was nothing at all to say So you fought on And you're fighting every day. God knows What she wanted for you A place in this world A family too, to love.

about

Asher Weiss grew up studying classical violin and listening to his dad's '60s folk collection. Sometime in high school, when he was immersed in the musical renaissance of the late '80s/early '90s, he began to strum a guitar. In college, he majored in religion. People would ask (in a tone ranging from puzzlement to disapproval), "A degree in religion!!? What can you do with that?" To which he would respond, "Play guitar, of course."

Indeed, guitar had become his primary instrument, but he was not writing songs. Far from it. Instead, he had fallen in love with chord voicings and the harmonic possibilities that only jazz guitar could offer. The jazz education was valuable to be sure, but it took him far too long to realize that his future lay in songwriting, not in practicing scales and arpeggios eight hours a day.

Before dedicating himself to songwriting, Asher played as a sideman in several NYC bands. Each one brought him closer to a songwriting role. When the last of these ended, he was out of options, so he decided to write his own songs. Singing followed.

Asher's second recording is called "Something More." (To find out why, take a listen.) It rocks more than his first release, "Bushwick to Boston," but Asher's acoustic guitar remains the backbone of his songs. And like his first effort, "Something More" is comprised of, to quote one of his friends, "songs about life."

"Something More" is dedicated to the memory of Caroline Llewellyn.

jonathann rice: bass and electric guitar, programming
nick curtis: drums on "Unlocking Doors" and "The Rubicon"
jesse maynard: drums on "Naked"
A scheduling snafu left us scrambling for an upright bassist on "Naked." You showed up at a moment's notice never having heard the song, played one take perfectly, and left--without leaving your name. Perhaps your departure was hastened by the mid-summer heat of the studio.Or maybe the sensual streets of DUMBO were calling your name, (which we can only wish we knew). Either way, we'd love to give you credit for your performance: upright bass on "Naked"
joseph chiofalo: accordion

ben russell: violin
